Hey! I’m Amelia.
I’m a freelance journalist and game designer from Madison, Wisconsin.
I started freelancing as a games journalist in 2021 after writing a story about the game Omori’s representation of mental health for Into the Spine. I loved the process (and the response — the story was even featured in a Critical Distance roundup!) so much that I decided to dive deeper into the world of games journalism.
Since then, I’ve had some interesting opportunities in the games journalism sphere, including:
Joining the IGN freelance news team
(Briefly) becoming Fanbyte’s dedicated Splatoon freelancer
Writing guides about a variety of games for Rock Paper Shotgun, Eurogamer, and VG247
I also run Ringtone, a blog focused on hyperpop and the internet music sphere. I absolutely love interviewing quirky artists and learning about the weird Soundcloud niches they occupy.
After writing about games, I started making them as well! Over the past few years, I’ve worked on a few short games for jams along with Garage Sale, a cozy narrative game about exploring a small town’s community-wide garage sale day that was released in June 2024.
When I’m not writing or designing games, you can find me playing the drums, catching up on RPGs, birding, or sharing music with the Madison area via WSUM 91.7 FM (or via questionable DJ sets at various parks and parties).
